Overcoming

 

What overcomes the world?

 

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” 1 John 5:4.

 

In whose victory may the Christian ever rejoice and take courage?

 

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.

 

Who alone overcomes?

 

“Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

1 John 5:5.

 

Through what, then, is the victory gained in the work of overcoming?

 

“This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” Verse 4.

 

Through whom do we obtain the victory?

 

“But thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Corinthians 15:57. “No, in all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37.

 

How did Christ overcome when tempted?

 

By the Word of God. (See Matthew 4:1-11.)

 

How do the Scriptures say the saints overcame the enemy?

 

“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of the testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” Revelation 12:11. 

 

With what does the Apostle Paul tell us to overcome evil?

 

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21.

 

Why was the patriarch Jacob’s name changed to Israel?

 

“Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.” Genesis 32:28. 

 

Exceeding Great and Precious Promises

 

“He who has an ear let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.” Revelation 2:7.

 

“He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.” Verse 11.

 

“To him that overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receive it.”

Verse 17.

 

‘To him that overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations.” Verse 26.

 

“He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before My Father and his angels.” Revelation 3:5.

 

“Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.”  Verse 12.
