The
Law of God (Ten Commandments)
Lesson 11
Marking
code: TC
Marking Color: Blue
Key Text: Exodus 20:1-17
- Exodus 20:1-17. God
gave His moral law, the Ten
Commandments, on Mount Sinai. These
ten rules for living are the
expression of Gods character.
They tell us how to relate to Him and
to each other in a way that is in
harmony with Gods character of
love.
- Matthew 5:17-19. Jesus
did not come to destroy-or do away
with-the law; He came to fulfill
it-live out its principles in His
life on earth. He specifically says
that Gods law will remain as
long as heaven and earth exists.
Isaiah
42:21. Jesus came to magnify the law and
honor it.
- Romans 5:12-14. Gods
law has always existed; otherwise,
there could be no sin-or death.
Romans
4:15.
1
John 3:4. Sin is lawlessness or
transgression of the law.
Romans
6:23. The penalty for sin is death.
- Psalm 19:7. Gods
law is perfect and eternal. In this
way, it is a reflection of God
Himself.
Psalm
111:7,8.
- James 2:10-12. In
the final judgment, human beings will
be judged by the standard of
Gods law.
James
4:17.
- John 14:15. We
keep Gods law because we love
Him and because He has saved us by
His grace. Commandment keeping is not
a means to salvation. We are not
saved by our obedience to Gods
law. Our obedience is an evidence
of our salvation.
Romans
3:28
John
15: 10-14.
1
John 5:2,3.
Romans
13:10.
- 1 John 2:3,4. The
bible uses strong language to
describe those who claim to be
Gods children but who are
disobedient to His commandments.
Those who know God and love Him will
be willing to obey Him in all things.
They are not perfect, but they have
an attitude of willing obedience.
Proverbs
28:9
- Jeremiah 31:33. Christ
wants to write His law in our hearts.
That is, He wants its principles to
become a part of our lives so that we
obey because we want to obey-not
because we feel we must.
Psalm
119: 1,10, 165.
- Revelation 22:14. God
pronounces a special blessing on
those who keep His commandments.
