Baptism
Lesson
24
Marking
Code: B
Marking Color: Blue
Key Text: Ephesians 4:3-5
- Ephesians 4:3-5. The
Bible teaches one form of baptism.
Baptism by immersion commemorates
Jesus death, burial, and
resurrection. However, Satan has a
counterfeit for every truth of
God-including a multiplicity of
methods of baptism. Pouring,
sprinkling, and other methods that
have been introduced into the
church. However, the important
question is: What does the Bible say?
- Colossians 2:12. Complete
burial (immersion) under the water is
the biblical method of baptism that
accurately symbolizes our death and
burial to sin. The Greek word baptizo
means to dip or to
plunge under.
John
3:23. John baptized where there was
much water (so he could
completely immerse those he baptized).
Matthew
3:16. Jesus came up immediately from
the water after His baptism.
Acts
8: 38,39. Philip baptized the Ethiopian by
immersion.
- John 3:5.
Baptism is essential to salvation.
Mark
16:16
1
Peter 3:21.
- Romans 6:3,4.
Baptism symbolizes Jesus death
for sin, burial and resurrection. We
die to sin, are buried beneath the
waters of baptism, and are raised up
out of the water to live a new life
in Christ. Only baptism by immersion
can truly symbolize the meaning of
this ceremony.
- Matthew 28: 19,20.
Proper instruction and preparation of
the heart needs to take place before
a person is baptized. The preparation
includes understanding Gods
will for us, accepting Jesus as
Savior, repentance for sin, a desire
to be obedient to Gods will,
and a change in the life. For this
reason, infant baptism is contrary to
the Bible and the practice of the
Early Church.
Mark
16:16.
Acts
8:35-37.
- Acts 2:38. The
Holy Spirit is evident in our lives
when we are baptized and put
on Christ.
Galatians
3: 26,27.
- Acts 19: 1-5. When
a person receives significant new
light from God, re-baptism may be
appropriate.
- Mark 1:9-11.
Jesus set the example for us by being
baptized at the beginning of His
ministry.
1
Peter 2:21.
1
John 2:6.
- Acts 22:16. A
person should not delay when the
proper time comes for baptism.
- 1 Corinthians 12:
12, 13. We are invited to enter
into fellowship of one body in Christ
through baptism.
B-End.
